When it comes to float trips, everyone knows the first, and most important, decision is what to put in the coolers. The second-most important decision is choosing which river to float. We recommend the uncrowded, clear, cool waters of the Meramec River's runaway child. The guttural-sounding Huzzah (pronounced HOO-za) Creek, a tributary of the Meramec that winds northward through Crawford County, may not seem an obvious choice, but it does feature several lodging and canoe-rental options, along with a beautiful, untouched natural backdrop. When the water levels are low, the fishing's pretty good; at higher levels, you'd better be confident in your canoeing skillz.
