The word "public" is often followed by unsavory words like "enemy" or "bathroom." Rarely is it something that's as fun as "golf course." And rarer still is that public golf course one that's both fun to play and appealing to golfers of all skill levels. For the proficient golfer, Tower Tee's eighteen-hole, par-three course in Affton is an opportunity to sneak in a quick round of golf in less than two hours. For the novice, its par-three design keeps the frustration low and the fun high. The front nine is a good warm-up; it's shorter and easier than the more challenging back half-nine. Its longest hole is No. 15 at 175 yards, and trees and a creek off to the right spell nothing but trouble. But coolers are welcome, too, helping to keep the fun times buzzing. Even though Tower Tee doesn't boast the frills of some higher-end courses (golf carts are for sissies!), its on-site teaching staff is just as qualified, boasting PGA certifications. Tower Tee is open all year — complete with heated hitting bays on even the coldest winter days — and playing eighteen costs under $20.
