Best Blues Club - 2013
Beale on Broadway
The blues were made for hot, sweaty, steamy nights. On any given evening (at least until winter rolls around), the rustic patio of Beale on Broadway — with its ample tables, excellent sightlines and freight trains rolling into view — throws the sound of the blues out into the open air and dishes out even more heat than it takes in. Some of St. Louis' strongest performers have long held weekly residencies at Beale: Kim Massie, Roland Johnson and the Hard Tale Blues Band, for starters. In cooler months, bands cram onto to the indoor stage and play loud and loose, whether they're regular touring artists like Eric "Guitar" Davis or the occasional honky-tonker like Junior Brown. Beale on Broadway is more than a tourist stop or postgame destination: It's the true down-home home of St. Louis blues.
