Arthur "Flash" Anthony Johnson has an extraordinary story. A fiercely competitive boxer with more than 100 wins under his belt, Johnson won numerous national flyweight titles before representing the United States at the Seoul Olympics in 1988. The East St. Louis, Illinois, native retired while still in his twenties, and then mounted a comeback in the '90s, continuing to win titles. In 2008 Johnson was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, and he turned from fighting to singing gospel music, pouring as much soul into the studio and onto the stage as he once did the canvas ring. A deft if not overpowering singer, Anthony shines as a songwriter, channeling a dramatic personal history into some of the most inspiring music on the contemporary gospel scene.
