It started out so full of promise and potential, this relationship. But like all things on this big ol' piece of granite, it had to end sooner or later. Let's make it the former. Grab your almost-ex and jet to the Saint Louis Science Center when the Strings of Arda — a group composed of Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra musicians — settles in for Science with the Symphony at the James S. McDonnell Planetarium. The ensemble will play an intimate suite of songs as constellations majestically sweep across the ceiling. Underneath the canopy of stars, you'll realize that you — and the poor bastard seated next to you — don't amount to all that much in this grand game of interplanetary connect the dots. As far as anyone knows we only get one of these lives, and even one lived well is all too short. So bail already. As the concert — and your relationship — draws to a close, hold the sap's hand and gently explain, "It's not you, darling. It just wasn't in the stars." Strings of Arda performs next at 7 p.m. Monday, November 4. Admission is free, but reservations are recommended.
