KT's lies in an unassuming strip mall in Oakville and serves a simple menu of bar staples. Diners can feast of wings, toasted ravioli and even chicken livers to start. Bigger bites include a Gerber, a pulled-pork sandwich and TJ's Pizza. Guests can sit at a booth or table or belly up to the bar and catch the game on the TV. KT's serves food Wednesday through Friday and offers carryout. Read more about this St. Louis bar or club >>
One of the coolest things about Southern Illinois is that you don't have to look for rural tranquility -- you're more or less in it once you sail past East St. Louis. But even by these standards, Paderborn is a tiny town, boasting a church, a population under 100, and Karban Knotty Pines Tavern, a delightful highway-straddlin' watering hole that plays host to Bob "Chick" Fritz's annual bluegill fishing tournament every June. http://www.myspace.com/keetonsdoubleplay South Kingshighway's premiere watering hole is nestled in a strip mall. Keeton's Double Play, known as one of the best karaoke bars in town, boasts five nights of singing and rabble rousing every week. As you let the songs ease your heart after a long day, the fully stocked bar will help you kick into high gear faster than you can say "Let's Go Blues!" A plethora of flatscreens televise every sport known to man, while dart boards and Big Buck Hunter let you join in on the fun. Featuring a large seating area with picnic-style tables and benches, Keeton's specializes in bar room fare, from wings to burgers to the "best steak sandwich" in town. This fun little piano bar is one of the few gay-friendly outposts in Fox Park. The piano bar is the perfect place for a little night music - though you may also want to consider stopping in early for their excellent happy hour: $3 Three Olives drinks, $5 martinis, and a host of cheap shots. The front patio is perfect for a summer evening, but if you don't feel like listening to cars whizz by, don't worry, there's another out back-highlights include (inexplicably) an old clawfoot tub and half a gigantic plaster cheeseburger on the second patio. Don't mind the busily burping aluminum plant across the street or the steel bars on the windows, because Kicker's Corner is not the dicey South Broadway hole-in-the-wall it appears to be. True, it's primarily a laborers' bar, drawing from the last bastions of industry in this 'hood. You can hardly get in the place after quitting time, but don't be surprised if someone says, "Stop the radio. Who are you?" when you walk in. Kicker's Corner is small and friendly, and the regulars will have no problem convincing you to come back for the food; the impressive menu offers hearty fare like meatloaf, $8 steaks and improbably enough, crab legs. But here's why Kicker's wins our hearts: they recycle every single bottle they sell. An eco-friendly bar on the deep south side? Order two of those 16-ounce PBRs, because this place is rarer than the last unicorn. Read more about this St. Louis bar or club >>

http://www.kruegersbar.com In an area known for its fashionable cafes and glitzy martini bars, Krueger's is the best kind of anomaly: a genuinely old-school neighborhood watering hole. In this bar on the outskirts of Clayton (smoking is permitted, folks), they might not know your name when first you walk in, but they'll make it their business to learn it -- and to make you feel welcome while they're at it. Just steps off the Forsyth MetroLink stop, Krueger's boasts sidewalk dining with a full menu of reasonably priced eats. The menu features burgers, salads and hot and cold sandwiches, including a poor boy with salami, roast beef, ham and cheeses served on Fazio's French bread and a turkey melt on rye with tomato and American cheese. All can be served with a side of action from Busch Stadium, depending on the day. Read more about this St. Louis bar or club >>
