  • International Tap House-Chesterfield

    International Tap House-Chesterfield

161 Long Road Chesterfield, MO 63005
    636-537-8787

http://www.internationaltaphouse.com/chesterfield/ "500 beers, 40 on tap, 20 countries, 1 location" is displayed proudly on the backs of the bartenders' shirts at the International Tap House. (Although technically iTap has two locations since the opening of a Soulard outpost in June, the original is here in Chesterfield, about five minutes from the Chesterfield Airport exit on highway 40.) With its big-and-shiny exterior, iTap doesn't look like a neighborhood bar, but inside it holds some of the most friendly, welcoming people you'll ever meet. iTap is so proud of its beers from around the world that it actually holds a passport member night; bring yours in Thursday for discounted drinks. And definitely try the Goose Island Bourbon County stout, which regulars swear by. At 13 percent alcohol by volume, it's "beer that tastes like a shot of whiskey." Since iTap doesn't serve any food, though, your best bet might be to make a pit stop down the street at Stephanina's for a pizza before getting too crazy. The interior features several areas to -- quite literally -- lounge in, with more than a dozen board games scattered about, just in case. The bar stocks twelve varieties of beer, and the kitchen is known for its Reuben sandwiches and its "American tapas." Lunch fare includes sandwiches, soups and salads, but dinner is when the tapas come out to play. Nightly drink specials draw a variety of customers -- from college students (Monday) to teachers (Thursdays). There's live music on Friday and Saturday night. • Smittys Food & Drink

    Smittys Food & Drink

14876 Clayton Road Chesterfield, MO 63017
    636-391-1522

Smitty's is a cozy little restaurant tucked away in a plaza off Clayton Road in Chesterfield. Specializing in homestyle comfort food such as chicken fried steak, pasta and fried chicken, Smitty's is suitable for the whole family. Although there's a full-service bar, they are more focused on food here than alcohol. (You'll find plenty of daily specials for entrees, but none for booze.) On the weekends, though, live music brings in a younger crowd; you can also play shuffleboard. The parking lot of the plaza where Smitty's is located is small and can be difficult to navigate, especially during peak hours. Don't be surprised if you have to fight with an American Cleaners customer for a parking spot. Read more about this St. Louis bar or club >>
