  • The Beerhouse

    The Beerhouse

777 River City Casino Blvd. South St. Louis County, MO 63125
    314-388-7777

http://www.rivercity.com One of the more surreal dining experiences in St. Louis: a good ol' American bar and grill done up as a Disneyfied Bavarian beer hall, complete with waitresses costumed in fetching frocks a la Snow White. Part of the River City casino, the menu hits the basic goods, including tasty, oversized burgers, wings and ribs (ask for the sauce on the side). But there is also German fare, including a terrific rendition of the classic sauerbraten (here called "German Pot Roast"), tender braised beef over yummy spaetzle and braised red cabbage. Best of all, the friendly bartenders are skilled at a quick pour -- especially when the carnage you suffered at the craps table is written all over your face. • Blarney Stone Sports Bar and Grill

Blarney Stone Sports Bar and Grill

4331 Telegraph Road South St. Louis County, MO 63129
    314-487-4235

There's nothing particularly Irish about this South County neighborhood bar, other than the name and the horseshoe nailed above the door. But after a major facelift last year, Blarney Stone's sparkling surfaces may be clean enough to kiss. Plenty of indoor seating and flat-screens, coupled with cheap pizza and drink specials aplenty, will keep any football-watching crew happy. On the covered patio, patrons can enjoy breezes or a smoke break, while deciding whether to patronize dueling liquor stores Dirt Cheap or Fred's Cheapo Depot at closing time. • Buffalo Wild Wings

    Buffalo Wild Wings

Lindbergh Blvd. & I-255 South St. Louis County, MO 63129
    314-845-7878

http://www.buffalowildwings.com Buffalo Wild Wings was founded in 1982 when a guy from Buffalo, New York traveled to Ohio to judge an amateur figure skating competition and failed to find any wings that measured up to the ones at home. Now B-Dubs, as it likes to call itself, has spread to nearly every state in the U.S. with more than 600 locations, including St. Louis, where it's easy to find on Voice Places. The yellow-and-black logo features a buffalo that has sprouted majestic wings, but make no mistake--it's strictly chicken here, available in regular or boneless varieties in 21 flavors from Garlic Parmesan and Caribbean Jerk to Asian Zing and the simply named but much feared Blazin'. Every location features a plethora of televisions for your sports-watching needs and a plentiful selection of beer on tap. Read more about this St. Louis bar or club >>

  • Croc

    Croc's Sports Bar

5591 Oakville Shopping Court South St. Louis County, MO 63129
    314-894-0043

Every hour is happy hour at this super-cheap Oakville outpost, which was named Best Neighborhood Bar (South County) by RFT in 2006. Croc's is a spacious dark-in-daylight joint, coated with decades of tobacco smoke. The seasoned bartenders serve both advice and one-dollar well drinks straight-up. Darts, pool, video games and TVs draw a lot of regular dudes, but ladies drink free on Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to midnight, and the red-leather bar stools make a comfy perch. • The Dry Dock Tavern

    The Dry Dock Tavern

780 Lemay Ferry Road South St. Louis County, MO 63125
    314-631-5811

A favorite of its Lemay Ferry neighborhood, the Dry Dock Tavern makes customers feel like they're in a friend's comfortable man cave. There are no daily specials to draw in crowds, but the reasonable prices and friendly, straightforward service are constants. The entire room is covered in dark-stained wood, including the bar, bar back, tables, walls and ceiling. Though small, the space is not overpowered by neon or signage; the few decorations are related to sports (every one of the basics is represented), Anheuser-Busch or scantily clad Budweiser babes. The bar only carries two taps, Bud and Bud Light, but there are several microbrews in bottles and an expansive selection of trendy flavored vodkas. Patrons can partake in pizza-and-wings night on Tuesdays or bring their own food. There is no kitchen, but the tavern is happy to provide paper plates and napkins. http://www.hotshotsnet.com The HotShots located off Union Road near I-55 and Lindbergh is one of eight locations around the St. Louis area. Famous for its seven wing sauces and weird pizza toppings (sloppy joe, loaded baked potato, hamburger macaroni, breakfast, etc.), HotShots also features scantily-dressed ladies in referee outfits and a plentiful supply of pool tables and dart boards. With drink specials every night, including really cheap shots, HotShots airs football games as well as UFC title fights, Blues games and the occasional bikini contest. • Judy

    Judy's Velvet Lounge

777 River City Casino Blvd. Lemay, MO 63125
    314-388-7777

http://www.rivercity.com The "velvet lounge" part of Judy's Velvet Lounge is no understatement: The lush, colorful fabric covers everything from the ceiling to the bar. More cabaret than tavern, this oasis in the middle of River City Casino is one of only two bars inside the actual casino area. It's the perfect place for weary gamblers to take a break and enjoy their drinks in comfy, velvet-wrapped (of course!) swivel chairs. Large TVs line the walls, while one huge screen hangs down in front of the stage, making it almost impossible to miss that big game. Entertainment (including St. Louis favorites Well Hungarians, Big Bad VooDoo Daddy and various DJs) performs weekends on the oversized stage at the back of the large circular room. The circular theme plays out throughout the space, including the mirror in the middle of the ceiling and the massive chandelier above the entrance, giving the space a unified and luxurious feel. The all-white, well-lit bar stretches across almost the entire length of the second level above the stage/dance floor area, attracting video poker enthusiasts who like to have it all: drinks at hand, sports on TV and their game at their fingertips. Pink Galleon Billiards & Games-South County

4010 Butler Hill Road South St. Louis County, MO 63129
    314-845-2386

http://www.pinkgalleon.com Sometimes, happiness is found in a strip mall. The Pink Galleon is a vast gaming hall in south county, with pool tables as far as the eye can see and enough Big Buck Hunter games and dart boards to qualify as an arcade. Playful heckling and the unmistakable clink of billiard balls punctuate the ambiance. There's a surprising lack of flatscreen TVs - or maybe we were just too busy owning our air hockey competitors to notice. Read more about this St. Louis bar or club >>

  • The Sports Pub

    The Sports Pub

6348 Telegraph Road South St. Louis County, MO 63129
    314-846-3782

The latest incarnation of this South County space is a bright and family-friendly sports haven. (Strangely enough, it used to be a martini lounge.) The clean, curving rooms are decorated with like-new sports paraphernalia, the attractive bar features more top-shelf liquor than most "pubs," and the service is attentive. It's not gritty or lived-in, but its spacious patio, decent drink specials and exceptional bar food - including an addictive buffalo dip - will quickly make you a regular. • Tucker

    Tucker's Place-South County

3939 Union Road South St. Louis County, MO 63125
    314-845-2584

http://www.tuckersplacestl.com Within its rustic walls, Tucker's Place in South County continues its tradition, started in 1982, of serving up affordable steaks in an unpretentious setting. Diners can expect choices from filets, sirloins and strips. In case a non-carnivore comes along for the meal, Tucker's also has plenty of vegetarian-friendly appetizers, salads and pizza. • Tuckers Bar & Grill

    Tuckers Bar & Grill

    8518 S. Broadway Saint Louis, MO 63125
    314-544-6200

Tucker's Bar and Grill is a small bar located on South Broadway near the River City Casino. It may not be the most high profile or sophisticated bar around, but it's also not trying to impress anyone. And maybe that's what makes Tucker's special: modesty. The patrons of Tucker's (most of whom seem to sport charming southern drawls) claim that no one is a stranger at Tucker's and everyone is welcome. Tucker's has a pool table, a small stage for the occasional live band and $1 beer all day Monday for Monday-night football. If you're a lady, you're in luck on Wednesdays: Beer and call drinks are just $1 each. Read more about this St. Louis bar or club >>

  • Twisted Bull Saloon

    Twisted Bull Saloon

3924 Lemay Ferry Road South St. Louis County, MO 63125
    314-894-5533

Like so many south-county bars, this one is nestled in a strip mall, amid a massive parking lot. On Friday and Saturday nights, there's a line of people out the door waiting to shell out their $5 to the bouncers. It's billed as a country bar (the word "saloon," we find, is usually a tip-off), but you won't find hay bales and Montgomery Clift posters here, just a large circular bar, Top-40 on the P.A. system and a wall of denim, interspersed with the occasional bandage-dress/stilettos combo.
