From the checkerboard floor and pool tables to the lively rock n' roll atmosphere, Classics certainly lives up to its name. The kindly owner himself can often be found at the bar, sitting and drinking with townies, swapping war stories and hugging the regulars. Classics proudly boasts championship pool and darts teams, as well as a formidable music lounge affectionately called "The Other Side" which hosts local blues and rock bands. The heated and florid patio will keep you cozy outside, and a menu of American classics (mostly burgers and sandwiches) will keep you cozy inside. More >>
Clementine's manages to be both a neighborhood bar — drawing in Soulard locals with a New Orleans-like happy hour from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. — and a destination bar, packing them in on the patio on Sunday afternoons. The Sunday crowd ranges from prep to frat to bear to twink, with all the gay subspecies in between, and all crammed together hip to haunch. The barroom is in the classic style, with a large circular bar in the center. Guys can pose or prowl around the edges. Or they can just play pool or throw darts. Clem's is the oldest gay bar in St. Louis. And like all grand ladies, she will survive. More >>
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Club-Amnesia-St-Louis/163375600363779 Club Amnesia is hardly different from its predecessor Lure --the basic layout is the same, the Thursday night crowd is the same -- but the increased security (male and female pat-downs, mandatory $3 coat check for every patron) ensures that Amnesia is not following in Lure's flawed footsteps. The weekend cover can be steep at $10, and the line to get in can be long, but we'll be damned if it isn't the most fun you'll ever have. Nowhere else do we find the meat-market scene so appealing: The weaves are fabulous, the hip hop is bangin' and every single song elicits fervent cries of "This my JAM!" More >>
The sign outside of Club Elite states that the joint is "Where 'Particular' People Meet." How one defines "particular" is a matter of taste, but the friendly security guard who administers the pat-downs at the door makes sure that all patrons will have a particularly safe, good time. Housed in an old Pantera's Pizza building, Club Elite feels like a well-appointed clubhouse, with its exposed rafters wrapped in blinking Christmas lights and mirrored walls. Expect a cover charge on most nights. More >>
http://www.clubvivastl.com/web/ For those looking to dance to a different beat, the small-but-always-packed Club Viva! offers world music five nights a week. Hidden in plain sight in an alley just off bustling Euclid Avenue, this club still manages to feel miles away from the sports bars and boutique shops of the Central West End. Hour-long dance lessons are free prior to Latin nights, and the diverse crowd is always friendly and willing to give pointers. Freewheeling bartenders serve up tasty nightly specials, and though most of the music pumping through Club Viva! is via DJ, the club also occasionally attracts international reggae acts. More >>
While a sailboat somehow drifted onto the lawn at Colorado Bob's Ship of Fools, you only need to take a step inside to realize that this Key West themed bar is anything but washed up. In fact, after a few of their signature rum cocktails and margaritas served by attentive barmaids handpicked by cordial Colorado Bob himself, it might be hard to remember that this Tower Grove South establishment is situated within the landlocked Midwest. Along with the flavor of the Keys comes mellow rock music and decor whimsical enough to transform any negative Nancy land-walker into a seafaring Jolly Roger. Entertainment awaits in the form of the latest arcade games and a foosball table. Colorado Bob's would be a great stop for any Morganford pub crawl -- one drink of their Golden Margarita and it's "Off To Sea Once More." More >>
http://www.coltranesbarandgrill.com A visually odd north-county gem, Coltranes surprises its guests with intriguing patrons and a nautical theme. (The space calls to mind the interior of a private boat, with wood paneling and portholes throughout.) There are a plethora of pool tables and a pretty rockin' jukebox. And while anywhere else, a wall of mirrors might seem seedy or strange, at Coltranes, it's actually a fun detail that creates a mirage of additional space. If you're a lady, don't you dare miss General Ladies' Night every Wednesday; Coltranes also offers karaoke every Saturday. More >>
http://www.crackfoxbar.com At The Crack Fox, visitors can feel free to let their freak flag fly or simply play the role of a leisurely standby. All are welcome at this eclectic downtown dive -- just don't be surprised to see anything from burlesque and drag performances one night to bondage and gotchic industrial garb the next. EDM spins, karaoke, open mics, metal shows and more also make up the list of participatory alternative entertainment offered here, and there's a huge selection of beer and handcrafted cocktails to wash it all down with. Take, for instance, the "ginger snap" made with ginger vodka, cinnamon Schnapps and lemonade. Come in to pick your poison and meet the cast of friendly fun-loving regulars, and don't forget to bring an open mind. More >>
A slick, bad-ass bar on South Broadway, Crossbones is just a little over a year old -- it's still remarkably clean, and the chrome-fronted bar still shines like the glistening exhaust pipe on your hog. You don't have to be a biker to love Crossbones, but you'd better get used to drinking with them. The good new is that you'll rarely find more interesting company. As it says above the bar: "Choppers til you die." More >>
Along the charming brick-paved street of Mississippi Avenue in Crystal City is Crystal Tavern, a bar that has been around for more than 60 years. With bands covering songs by the Black Eyed Peas and Ke$ha on the weekends, Crystal Tavern is the self-proclaimed contemporary "place to be in Jefferson County." There's no cover charge here, but there is a great happy hour: From 3-6 p.m. weekdays, longnecks are just $2 and drafts, $1.25. The folks at Crystal Tavern know how to take care of their customers -- they tout Crystal City's 24-hour taxi service and plentiful hotels. More >>
Maplewood's the Cue specializes in friendly games of 8-ball. Located in an unassuming strip mall, the Cue offers nine tables and -- unless you're a total pro who travels with your own -- a bevy of good-quality cues. The Cue succeeds in setting an inviting atmosphere by not cramming the space full of billiard tables; the bar area has plenty of seating for socializing or watching the game on the big-screen television, and the perky bar staff will serve you with a smile. Sure, the regulars may try to hustle you, but that's part of the charm of a pool hall. More >>
