101 W. Lockwood Ave. Webster Groves, MO 63119
    314-963-1976

http://www.cjmuggs.com With a large menu, big bar and plenty of seating, C.J. Muggs, at the corner of Lockwood and Gore avenues in Webster Groves, feeds and entertains locals and newcomers en masse. The menu features expected and unexpected bar fare, including Bayou shrimp sautéed in a beer-and-butter sauce, three-bean chicken chili and Creole gumbo. C.J. Muggs also serves an expansive selection of pizzas, baked with both mozzarella and Provel cheeses. Some of the restaurant's heftier bites include entrées, burgers and sandwiches, including a bourbon pepper steak, seared and topped with a sweet onion bourbon sauce and onion strings, a barbecued pulled pork sandwich and the "St. Louis Bleus" burger topped with blue cheese and bacon. • Danno

    Danno's American Pub

7895 Watson Road Shrewsbury, MO 63119
    314-395-3000

Danno's American Pub is a bit off the beaten path for the average city-bound 'hood rat, but it's also a good reminder why venturing out of the city is a worthwhile exercise. Danno's is exactly what you expect from a classic American bar, except this one is tended by an adventurous mixologist, not just someone who knows what goes in a cranberry-vodka. Danno's casual atmosphere and comfy club chairs lend a relaxed air that facilitates anonymity -- something that's hard to come by in the big small town that is St. Louis proper. More >>

Farotto's also offers lunch combos, sandwiches, burgers and pasta. The dinner menu expands the offerings with St. Louis-style pizza, more pasta choices and entrées such as pistachio-encrusted salmon, chicken saltimbocca and a stuffed pork chop: twelve ounces of pig stuffed with portabella mushrooms, onions and blue cheese crumbles then topped with apple-walnut chutney. With its extensive list of coffee cocktails, Farotto's makes for a great escape on a chilly night. Particularly noteworthy is its wine bar, which offers a weekday happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. More >>

  • Llywelyn

    Llywelyn's Pub-Webster Groves

17 Moody Ave. St. Louis, MO 63119
    314-962-1515

http://www.llywelynspub.com e know there are multiple locations, and all of them would work just fine, but Llywelyn's in Old Webster, we think, is your best bet. The cavernous ceilings and sprawling, two-sided bar is perfect for a crowd of spectators to gather around and move about freely. There are several leather couches and large tables if you have a big group, all surrounded by plenty of TVs. If you need something to munch on, there's a long list of Celtic-style appetizers, and the rotating tap list always has a few intriguing surprises. More >>
