    Grove East Provisions

3101 Arsenal St. St. Louis, MO 63118

When Barry Kinder was living in London, he frequented the neighborhood corner stores, stopping in daily to pick up some groceries for dinner, a bottle of wine or a cup of soup. He came to rely on these little bodegas, but when he moved back to St. Louis, he noticed a dearth of them throughout the city, especially in his Tower Grove East neighborhood. He opened Grove East Provisions to fill this void. The small shop is part grocery, part cafe with a small selections of sandwiches and soups. Kinder’s goal is to do classic items as well as he can, using freshly baked bread, quality meats and fresh produce. Highlights include an excellent club sandwich with house-smoked turkey, ham, bacon and garlicky aioli. The meatloaf melt is a hearty meal between two slices of bread, and his homemade chicken noodle soup is reason enough to stop in. As an added bonus, Red Fox Baking & Catering, one of the city’s best bakeries, shares the kitchen with Kinder. He uses its breads for all of the sandwiches and sells their baked goods in the grocery section of the store. More >>
