Feeling Blue?

BY MARK FISCHER

Feeling Blue?
Muddy, by Brandon McKinney

The students of Central Visual and Performing Arts High School have channeled those back-to-school blues into their work with the new exhibit Backpack Blues. Designed as a companion piece to the simultaneous Legends of St. Louis Blues exhibit, the student work takes a decidedly multi-media look at musicians like Billie Holiday, Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters. Meanwhile, the Legends show reveals the histories of seminal St. Louis musicians with archival photographs, illustrations, ephemera and biographies. These are just two of the six new exhibits opening Friday, September 25, at the Sheldon (3648 Washington Boulevard; www.thesheldon.org). The free “All-Gallery Opening Reception” pulls out all the stops with complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Backpack Blues remains on display through Saturday, February 6, and Legends of St. Louis Blues is on display through Saturday, August 28. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday.
