Whether it's in the form of the rolling stone or the rambling man, American folk music celebrates the transient. Outlaws on the run, pioneers, people upping stakes and moving somewhere else to start anew — it's the very reason America came to be, and it's little wonder the idea continues to echo in our native music. Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen celebrate this tradition of forward (or sometimes lateral) motion in their new song cycle, Fugitive Songs. A pissed-off sandwich shop employee, a reluctant robber and other characters on the run from something — or nothing — sing about the joys and heartbreak of hitting the road. Echo Theatre Company presents Fugitive Songs at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday (October 30 through November 15) at Theatre 134 in the ArtSpace at Crestwood Court (Watson and Sappington roads, Crestwood; 314-225-4329 or www.echotheatrecompany.org). Tickets are $15 to $25.
