The Danes who invented LEGO blocks in the 1930s mastered the principles of simplicity and universal application with their famous interlocking pieces. Each one manufactured today is crafted to still fit LEGO units from decades ago. And LEGO creations extend far beyond mere child's play these days -- as Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Bricks illustrates. This new exhibition at the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard; 314-577-5100 or www.mobot.org) features twelve installations of nature-themed LEGO sculptures by artist Sean Kenney; more than 300,000 plastic LEGO bricks go into the construction of the artworks, which are all larger than life. You can try this at home, but it's a tossup whether you'll run out of patience or LEGO bricks first. Nature Connects is open daily through Sunday, September 7. Admission is $3 to $6, in addition to regular garden admission ($4 to $8).
