Precision Cut, the new exhibition at Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design (6640 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-725-1177 or www.craftalliance.org), embraces and challenges the earthly notions of beauty and form in traditional woodwork. Artists Peter Exton, Keith Holt, Todd Hoyer, and Leah K. Woods all push beyond the confines of standard lathe turning. Each of them explores other techniques -- reverse-turning, multi-axis turning, carving and building -- when creating their unique works. The connecting link in all of their output is a mastery of the precise cut, whether crafting an elegantly shaped sphere or an intricate lattice-like decorative piece. Precision Cut opens with a free reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 5. The exhibit remains open through Sunday, October 26, and the gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is free.
