Uber-Vegan Author Will Tuttle Speaks Tomorrow

Posted By on Mon, Oct 18, 2010 at 3:16 PM

Author Will Tuttle makes the case in his book The World Peace Diet that society's ills share a common root cause: maligning animals for food. Hear him hold forth on veganism saving the world tomorrow at the Christ Church Cathedral courtesy of the St. Louis Vegetarian Society.

Tuttle's 2005 tome looks at the spiritual ramifications of eating the flesh of animals as well as using their eggs and milk. He makes the case that non-vegan food choices reinforce violence in killing animals for their flesh and subjugation of women in taking milk and eggs from female animals.

From the book's introduction:

"If we fail to make the connection between our daily meals and our cultural predicament, we will inevitably fail as a species to survive on this earth. By refusing to make this essential connection, we condemn others and ourselves to enormous suffering, without ever comprehending why."

Dr. Tuttle, a former Zen monk and composer as well as vegan activist, speaks tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, in Schuyler Hall.
