here at Gut Check International Headquarters, I thought I'd point out the controversy roiling -- roiling! -- the New York branch of the restaurant website Eater.
A reader sent Eater a receipt for that included a $2 surcharge for serving the drink on the rocks

, the "supper club" that leveled the charge. The reply? No, the restaurant isn't charging for ice cubes. It's charging because a drink served on the rocks will have a somewhat larger pour.
Does this make sense? Yeah, sure. But, geez, just fold the surcharge into the cost of the drink rather than expose yourself to OH MY GOD THIS RESTAURANT CHARGES FOR ICE!-style headlines.
