Cicada mania continues! Last week we discussed ways to cook cicadas. With all the talk, ice cream keeps coming up as the favorite. Or most intriguing.
Sparky's Homemade Ice Cream in Columbia and their large collection of crocheted stuffed toys were featured on CNN Eatocracy's 5@5 daily feature, thanks to the exposure they got from the cicada ice cream they couldn't keep in stock.
Closer to home, FOX 2 can't stop eating bugs. They got Serendipity Homemade Ice Cream in on it with a specially made quart of cicada ice cream, fed to unsuspecting news anchors.
Chef Mary Harden of Serendipity only put the insects in the quart for FOX 2, which was more than enough for her.
"The bugs are gross," she said. "I couldn't bring myself to pull off their heads or wings. Then, even after I covered them in chocolate, I could still see the creepy eyes and wings perfectly."
Serendipity's serving "cicada" ice cream in their Webster Groves shop. "We only sell the version with whole chocolate-covered pecans," said Harden. "They look just like the real thing."
