You'd think running a snow cone stand would be pretty simple, relatively stress-free. And it probably is, unless of course, someone plows through a red light, over a curb and through your snow cone stand.
This is the sad recent history of Cup of Sno (3515 South Big Bend Boulevard, Maplewood); the stand was destroyed last April, but luckily, no one was inside at the time of the accident. There's a rainbow-colored, fruity-flavored light at the end of that tunnel. As Ian reported earlier this month, the stand has been rebuilt, and Cup of Sno now resides in a shiny new stand that's even brighter and cuter than the original.
Gut Check recently visited the snow cone stand, and realized that it's not a snow cone stand at all! Much to our delight, we found Cup of Sno now serves soft, fluffy shaved ice. Furthermore, they'll add cream to any flavor for $.50, and Gut Check has yet to find a flavor that doesn't cohabitate splendidly with the delicious addition.
Cup of Sno's menu features mysterious flavors such as "Rock n Roll," "Silver Fox" and "Star Wars." In the name of investigative journalism, we asked what we could expect from these snow cones with playful names. We admittedly stopped listening after the teenage snow cone slinger described the "Silver Fox." Chocolate and vanilla with a hint of almond topped with cream? Sign us up.
The stand also carries the traditional flavors (Apple! Grape! Orange! Tiger's Blood!) but Silver Fox (aside from having a name that's perhaps too sexy for a snow cone) is creamy and indulgent, the perfect substitute for a calorie-rich ice cream cone. More of a fruit fan? Try the Dreamsicle with cream. You won't be disappointed.
