During a recent jaunt to the Wal-Mart (3270 Telegraph Road) on Telegraph Road in south county, Gut Check made a semi-life-altering discovery: Nutella & Go!, an individually packaged, snack-size portion of Nutella and breadsticks. Produced by Ferrero, the people behind everyone's favorite hazelnut spread, the to-go treat is news to Gut Check. Our glee intensified when research* indicated that the product might be new to U.S. markets, or at least to Wal-Mart shelves. But is the product really new? Is it worth the $2 sticker price? And, even if it were new local markets, does anyone except Gut Check care? Are we human, or are we dancer?

When our 3:30 p.m. hunger pangs rolled around today we took the Nutella & Go! for a snack-time spin. The snack-size serving of spread provided the kind of portion control we're normally incapable of with a jar or tub of Nutella and the whole kit-and-caboodle clocked in at a reasonable 260 calories -- not as sensible (wimpy?) as gimmicky 100-calorie snacks, but certainly more satisfying.
The added benefit of opting for Nutella & Go! is in the half-truth justification that it's a healthier choice than, say, a bag of Doritos from the vending machine. What it lacks in trans fat it makes up for in saturated fat, sodium, carbohydrates and sugar, but hey, it manages to add some fiber and protein to your diet, which is more than most junk food can claim.
