Easter egg hunts were fun when we were kids, but we're grown-ups now. Time for a more mature way to celebrate the Easter holiday. Like wine. And bocce.
On Saturday, March 30, Italia-America Bocce Club (2210 Marconi Avenue; 314-773-5574) and Randall's Wine and Spirits (14201 Manchester Road, Ballwin; 636-527-1002) are holding a party called "Bacchus & Bocce Bunny Edition." Randall's will have tastings of more than 25 different wines to pair with bocce. You know, to make the game a little more challenging.
According to a rep for Randall's, the wines will be from all over. France, Italy, Spain and California will all be represented at the tasting (no word on any fine Missouri wines). The styles range from dry reds to sparkling whites, at prices ranging from $9.99 to $68.99.
Chef Lou Rook of Annie Gunn's will also be there with his new cookbook, Rook Cooks: Simplicity at its finest. He will prepare finger food based upon recipes in his book, and he'll be selling and signing copies for those who like what they're tasting.
Bocce is, of course, the Italian sport (most often played by elderly men in parks) wherein one tries to throw/roll baseball-sized bocce balls at a smaller ball, called a jack or a boccino. The object is to get the big balls as close to the small ball as possible.
We're told the bocce balls will probably not be painted like Easter eggs, but we are so not above bringing some festive paint of our own to liven things up a bit.
The soirée takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. and costs $10 per person.
