Every day is a celebration of food on the Hill, St. Louis' iconic Italian neighborhood. Toasted ravioli was invented there, and there's an Italian eatery on every corner. Dining on the Hill can feel like stepping into your Italian grandmother's kitchen for a taste of the old country. Every square foot of the neighborhood smells like garlic.
In spite of the multitude of restaurants in the neighborhood, the Hill has never celebrated its own restaurant week. Until now: This week marks the first Restaurant Week on the Hill, organized by R&B Productions.
From April 15 through 21, diners can enjoy $25 prix-fixe menus at twelve participating restaurants, not all of which are Italian. Because the celebration lasts for a week, there's enough time to try meals at several Hill eateries.
The restaurants featured during restaurant week are Bartolino's, Charlie Gitto's, Cunetto House of Pasta, Favazza's, Five Bistro, Gian-Tony's Ristorante, Guido's Pizzeria and Tapas, Lorenzo's Trattoria, Mama Campisi's, Modesto, Tuscan Tavern & Grill and Zia's. Each of those restaurants has posted its prix-fixe menu on the Restaurant Week on the Hill website, so if you can't decide which of the ten Italian restaurants to try, check out their offerings online.
The participating restaurants will be offering the prix-fixe menu in lieu of their normal menus, but many places are creating new dishes for the event. Reservations are encouraged at any Hill restaurant during Restaurant Week.
Restaurant Week isn't just about good eats, though. It's also about supporting a good cause. Diners are encouraged to leave an extra donation on their bill to support St. Louis-based Hope For Young Adults With Cancer. The organization helps people from age 18 to 35 pay for medical bills associated with cancer treatments so the individuals can focus on beating the disease rather than worrying about the financial toll.
