Overview: Paul and Wendy Hamilton, owners of Eleven Eleven Mississippi and Vin De Set, opened their newest restaurant, PW Pizza (P for Paul, W for Wendy), more than two years ago. Paul and Wendy set out to be entirely inclusive of all diets and did just that, creating an amazingly vegetarian-, vegan- and gluten-free-friendly menu. PW offers both vegan and gluten-free crusts, as well as vegan cheese and match Italian sausage. Paul adds a touch of home -- Philly-style hand-tossed crust -- to PW's pizza. And to top it off, all of PW's crusts are made in-house.
Veggie Highlights: PW Pizza's roasted red pepper hummus ($6.99) is one of many veg items from the restaurant's menu. A generous serving of roasted red pepper hummus is served with your choice of warm pita or veggies. This appetizer is light enough that you'll still be able to chow down on some fresh-from-the-oven 'za!
One of Wendy's favorites is PW's "Vegged Out" pizza ($13.99), topped with chimichurri, roasted eggplant, roasted red pepper, artichoke hearts, caramelized onions, black olives, mozzarella and goat cheese. A dreamy pizza pie for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.
If you're not in the mood for pizza, then PW Pizza also has a delicious veggie lasagna ($12.99) -- eggplant, roasted red pepper, spinach, mushroom, ricotta and mozzarella -- and the "Fungus Amungus" sandwich ($7.79) -- marinated portobello, spinach, roasted red pepper and mozzarella -- to satisfy your taste buds.
The Veggielante has had it up to here with people bitching that St. Louis restaurants are vegetarian unfriendly. Sure, we'd like to see more restaurants offering more meatless dishes, but there are excellent choices out there if you take the trouble to look for them. We're not here to proselytize about greening up your diet. Our only motive is to spread the word about places where you can order good grub that ain't got no meat.
