Don't let the rain keep you from enjoying this weekend. Many events are for a good cause, like Feast in the Field, and others are just plain good. Friday (June 6):
Celebrate National Donut Day with Maplewood favorites Strange Donuts. Head to the Kuva Coffee factory for eats from Strange Donuts, of course, plus Mai Lee, Pastaria, Salume Beddu and Adam's Smokehouse; drinks are courtesy of Perennial Artisan Ales, Schlafly and Modern Brewery. From 6 to 10 p.m. $20 gets you all the food and drinks, and there will be DJs all night. You can get your tickets here.
This weekend, the St. Louis Symphony is going to make your wine that much sweeter. Violinist Heidi Harris and her husband, double bassist Erik Harris, both SLSO members, will perfect at Montelle before the weekly sunset dinner. Grab some wine and light bites or stay for the meal. The Cherokee Street Farmers' Market holds its first session of the summer tonight; it runs through October 31. Local vendors of produce, crafts, baked goods, coffee and more all come from within 100 miles, including Neighborhood Pride Garden and City House Country Mouse. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Enjoy a tasting menu and cocktails from students at L'Ecole Culinaire. This week's eats are heirloom tomato tarts with tapenade and goat cheese, Drambuie-glazed pork belly, empanadas, grilled flat iron "Chavito" proscuitto with quail egg, a play on a BLT, fried brie and apples, shrimp and crab cake, achiote-grilled shrimp with fresh corn polenta and fontina-stuffed portabella mushrooms. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Menu items are $7 to $8, and cocktails are $5.
Saturday (June 7):
Italian favorite Giuseppe's closed in February and is now catering-only, but you can get some of the classics at this fundraiser for local theater company Max & Louie Productions. Start with an open bar and appetizers and then a buffet dinner, plus desserts from Vitale's, Sweet Art and a Ted Drewes sundae bar. Max & Louie players will also be on hand to talk about upcoming performances. From 6:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $100; call 314-795-8778.
Sunday (June 8):
Slow Food STL is hosting its ninth annual Feast in the Field event, which honors Claverach Farms this year. The multi-course "dining extravaganza" was coordinated by Home Wine Kitchen's Cassy Vires, and it includes many of the top chefs in St. Louis. Feast in the Field benefits Slow Food St. Louis' Educational Programming and Small Farm Micro Biodiversity Grant. Tickets are $140 per person; get more info here.
Can't wait until June 13 for the next Food Truck Friday? Ten of your favorite mobile restaurants will be at Shaw Park this Sunday for Food Truck Sundays, which will run once a month until August. Choose from Bayou Ribs, Bombay Food Junkies, Curbside Cookery, Deli on a Roll, Holy Crepe, Sia's Italian Ice, Steak Louie, Steamroller, Walk Away Waffles and Yo Salsa. Kids' activities and live music run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., food trucks from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
