Blueprint Coffee (6225 Delmar Boulevard; 314-266-6808) brews hand-made coffee every day in the Loop under the principle of "beauty in precision." St. Louis photographer Andrew Koh first worked with the collaborative brewers while taking an advertising course at Washington University. After doing some design work for Blueprint, he and Marcus Stabenow decided to cap it off with a documentary short in collaboration with Sprudge, a coffee news site.

Koh is more well-known for working with hip-hop artists, so Blueprint was somewhat of a departure for him.
"Working with Blueprint was really fun for me because it was a lot more regimented. Oftentimes working with musicians, it's kind of spontaneous," Koh tells Gut Check. "But with Blueprint, I had a lot of flexibility and freedom to organize things and film things the way I wanted to. They gave me a lot of creative freedom, which was a lot of fun. I don't always get that."
The short follows co-owner Kevin Reddy and chief brewer Andrew Timko as they discuss the coffee, which is never machine-brewed, and what beauty in precision means to them and for the company.
"Hopefully people in St. Louis that don't know about Blueprint or specialty coffee in general can watch the video and pique their interest," Koh says. "I just really wanted to document their story and their philosophy towards coffee because their story is interesting to me. The whole subculture of specialty coffee is super fascinating."
