Alive magazine is holding its sixth annual Top Chef Ultimate Burger Challenge this Sunday, August 17. And guess what? Gut Check is helping judge! The competition pits six local chefs against each other to see who can cook up the best burger. We'll be nibbling on each one, but you can too.
The chefs participating are Bob Brazell, formerly of Athlete Eats, Carl Hazel of the Scottish Arms, Laura Borghardt of Stacked Burger Bar, Rachel Obermeyer of Prime 1000, Anthony Ellerson of the Kitchen Sink and Mike Johnson of Sugarfire Smokehouse.
Johnson is the defending champ, and we know he's hard to beat -- we named Sugarfire's cheeseburger one of the best in town last year. Tickets are $25 for general admission (which gets you six mini burgers and a drink sampling), and VIP spots are $40 (you get six mini burgers, two drink tickets, access to the VIP tent and private bathrooms), available here. Judging alongside us will be George Mahe of St. Louis Magazine , Allyson Mace of Sauce, Amy de la Hunt of Alive and Chris Reimer of Kaldi's Coffee.
Come out and say hi on Sunday -- the event runs from noon to 4 p.m. at Soldiers Memorial Plaza.
