Cork Dorks with Forks has been noodling around on social media for a while, and though we weren't sure what it was, it sounded like something we'd definitely enjoy. It turns out it's a website celebrating all the food and drink St. Louis and beyond has to offer. Helmed by Angela Ortmann, a.k.a. STL Wine Girl, and sommelier Matthew Dulle, Cork Dorks with Forks is launching a new "channel" every day this week.
"Every moment or memory in life can be related to food or drink. We want to remind people that we can find just as much enjoyment out of everyday tastes as we do with those of special occasions," Ortmann said in a statement. It's meant to be a celebration of food and the industry -- one that's often labeled (sometimes fairly) as stuck-up and elitist.
The Cork Dorks with Forks will combine photos, blog posts, podcasts and more to showcase chefs, bartenders, sommeliers, techniques, distillers and the like.
"[Food, drink and hospitality] are the mediums through which we make guests feel happy and at home," Dulle said. "We are entertainers first and educators second. Everyone can find an avenue that brings them the ability to discover and relish the daily pleasures of the full-on sensory experiences that are unique to that world. We are simply the ambassadors of that message."
The site officially launched Tuesday, and four channels have been revealed so far, though not their content. "Dulle's Dissertation" will explore why we are so captivated by the sensory experience of eating and drinking, sometimes in ways that defy science and reason. "Three-2-One" will present three-course meals you can make at home with the perfect bottle of wine to enjoy alongside it. "Geek Speak" helps out the neophytes among us -- sometimes menus and reviews are so full of jargon you don't even know what is going on. And there's no shame in that! Cork Dorks with Forks will make it approachable.
