A burst of cosmopolitan style in the fussy heart of Clayton, Araka offers a wide range of dishes with a strong southern European influence. Head chef Mark Curran has a deft touch, especially with seafood: big-eye tuna with oranges and olives is delightful, and black lentils and truffle turn salmon from boring to revelatory. The meat dishes are large and satisfying. The pairing of seared duck breast and leg confit with black truffle risotto is especially indulgent. Seared foie gras is a can’t-miss appetizer, and prawns à la plancha are also excellent. The wine selection, housed in an impressive glass tower, is very strong.
