Erato

126 N Main St.
Edwardsville, IL 62025
618-307-3203
Website
Erato's kitchen isn't much bigger than the bedroom of a small apartment, but from this confined space chef Kevin Willmann produces lovely and exciting food. The brief menu concentrates on "Smaller Plates": soups, salads, breads and modest portions of more substantial dishes. Recent standouts have included a fruit salad with crab, lobster and watermelon foam, cubes of marinated sushi-grade tuna served with truffle mustard, and cornmeal-encrusted halibut cheeks in a citrus beurre blanc. There are a few traditional entrées, such as an excellent dry-aged strip steak served over a scrumptious mash of Yukon gold and sweet potatoes, but by all means don't resist the temptation to build a meal out of several small courses.
