Try though it might to look and feel like any other sushi lounge — austere décor, tragically hip cocktails — what makes Modai worth a visit is that it actually comes off like a neighborhood sushi joint. Everyday rolls (tuna, salmon, etc.) are straightforward and satisfying; the more complicated specialty rolls (a vertically constructed volcano roll, the house-named Modai roll) don’t fail to impress. Drinks are suavely concocted, and the service is friendly to a fault and eager to please. Now the third place on the Loop to get sushi, we’d rank it the best one.
