As storied as St. Louis' beermaking history may be, we’re a bit behind the curve in local brewpubs. Enter Square One, housed in an old Lafayette Square tavern that a hundred years ago was home to an Anheuser-Busch tavern. Square One's dozen different varieties of house-crafted beer include a rich (but not weighty) stout, a clean-tasting IPA and a tart weizen. The food is hearty (if somewhat predictable) fare that stands up to the full-bodied flavor of a tasty pint: chili, beer cheese soup, bratwurst, plus beer-battered this, that and the other.

this is good place for a beer during the summertime or dinner in the courtyard during the summer. great atmosphere; it's never too crowded and the service is prompt, polite and accurate. the food is mid-price and quality is fair. a good place to take an out-of-town guest, a date or friends. a fine place to dine and drink!

Overall:

our service was bad. i think there was one waitress for the dining and bar area but she barely paid any attention once she brought our food. i didn't think it was crowded at all. she was supposed to bring drinks and then forgot, we had to go look for her. it ruined our good time having to worry about when our waitress would come by again. the food was decent but my beer cheese soup was only warm. i had to eat it quickly. the chicken tenders were good that i had. overall i do not recommend this place for dining. maybe just for drinks at the bar.

Overall:

We went to the sunday brunch to celebrate my hubby's b-day. The food was excellent - some of the best I have had in St. Louis. My daughter had the belgian waffle, hubby had the burger and I had the huevos rancheros. Excellent across the board. Undoubtedly the best beer in the lou, including Schlafley - not a bad beer in the 4-beer sampler my husban ordered (we got the our darkest beers).
Unlike the other review, our service was fine. It was quite busy, yet our water glasses were filled and food brought in a timely manner. Our wait person was attentive enough without being too present.
I can't believe we took this long to try the place and it will become one of our regular spots. THe prices for what you get are good. I can't wait to eat out on the patio in nice weather.
My only beef with it was the noise level which made it hard to talk, but there was a large group at the tables next to us, so it might have been them.

Overall:

HORRIBLE service. We had a group of friends out celebrating and after our meal the waitress decided to write in a 20% gratuity AFTER taxes. Who does that? I didn't eat my meal and the Jerk Chicken Sandwiches were the driest I've ever tasted. The beer was pretty good.

Our group sat at the table for at least 40 min trying to figure our how to split our bill since our waitress was incapable of doing it for us. Supposedly, you can only split the bill in half out of twelve people. We were offered a pen and some paper to figure out the calculations on our own.

NEVER coming back despite the fact the beer was not too bad.
