A taste of the Highlands in the Central West End. Scottish Arms owner and native Scot Alistair Nisbet has turned out an invitingly dark and welcoming space, perfect for downing pints or attempting to down haggis (which really isnt bad!). More fanciful-sounding items include cock-a-leekie pie (think cream of chicken soup with a baked-over crust), the Ptarmigan (chicken wrapped in bacon) and, well, a fried Mars bar for dessert. Some of the servers actually wear kilts; theyre the ones likeliest to know the menu like they were raised on it, and to talk Scotch for hours on end which makes for a pretty magical restaurant-going experience.
Took my husband here for his Birthday. Great beer selection. Food was not that great. Husband had the Haggis and loved it but for 11.95 you should get more than a large ice cream scoop on your plate. I had the Shepards Pie for 11.95 and found it rather bland but you did get alot. The scotch eggs we had before our meal were good but again for 7.95 you should get more than 2 eggs cut in half with dipping sauce. The Scottish Arms web site is outdated also. We would go back for a good beer but we would never eat there again.

I have visited the “Arms” several times for lunch and once for dinner. The Cock-a-leekie pie is necessary. Other selections, Fish and Chips, nice large piece of fish and large amount of chips. However, you have to start with the cheese soup, some of the best that I have had. Service over all is good, lunchtime it gets very busy, so the tea glass might get low before a refill. Recommend this for something other than a burger or pizza.

We eat here ever so often but would do so more often if we could figure out the hours they are open. The food can be quite good but we have also been disappointed from time to time. The Scotch eggs are incredible - maybe my favorite. Now the gripes - the wait staff can be a bit inattentive. Also, the entry is in the bar so everyone waits in the smoking section to be seated. Once you get to your table your clothes already reek of smoke. Also, smoke tends to drift over into non-smoking. They really need a better air filtration system. I haven't been in a couple of months because I'm just tired of eating in smoky places.

Great atmosphere does not make up for horrible food. My wife and I are from Edinburgh and were visiting friends when we heard about this restaurant. The atmosphere reminded us of a pub back home however the food was shite. To top it off our server actually used a fake Scottish accent.

Inconsistent is the perfect word for this place. Dishes rarely taste the same on each visit and generally taste old. My husband and I were regulars when it first opened but over the past two years the food has really gone downhill. I guess this is why they only use reviews from the first six months they were open.
