Alright, hipsters, it's time to own up. You should be ashamed for listening to music, consuming beverages and having a face, maybe with some sort of hair on it. And dancing? Well, it's clearly forbidden, so that's out. Seriously. Don't even think about going out this weekend. We're tired of you and your kind, ourselves included. We can't sleep at night, living in fear that we might morph into a mustachioed hipster werewolf-style overnight without even realizing it. Be wary: If you attend any of the following recommended shows, you might end up on the local news.
Friday (July 26):
The Lighthouse and the Whaler w/ Neulore @ Off Broadway 8:30 p.m. | $12-$15 The Lighthouse and the Whaler plays indie folk pop that tickles the heart strings. If you've had a rough week, lighten up with their uplifting tunes. Check out some twinkly-eyed tracks on their official website. (MS)
Unguent w/ Mincemeat or Tenspeed, Some Pepper, Kevin Harris, Beauty Pageant, Animal Teeth, Willis, MC Tubby Tom @ Livery Company 9 p.m. | $5 Two bills combine last minute for an experimental super-show. Three electronic artists from Philadelphia bend and blend undulating rhythms with noise while a slew of proud local weirdos spread the evening thin with everything from raps to punk thrashing. Grab some links to sounds via the event's Facebook page. (MS)
Saturday (July 27):
Fly Golden Eagle w/ Magic City, Demon Lover @ Plush 8 p.m. | $10 Fly Golden Eagle from Nashville, Tennessee, plays psych-garage-soul (listen here), and we couldn't think of more appropriate and awesome openers to welcome them to St. Louis. (MS)
Greyscale w/ Other Colors, Heavy Horse, Anodes @ The Radskeller 8 p.m. | $5 The band name "Greyscale" paired with "Other Colors" amuses us. We can only hope that this was done purposely, as both bands hail from different cities but have dissimilar sounds - the former channels early screamo, while the latter plays lo-fi pop. (MS)
