In recent weeks St. Louis has had a bit of a hard-on for Lollapalooza. After all, representatives from Los Angeles-based ICM Partners and leaders from our board of aldermen have told us time and again that the proposed Summer Rocks festivals will offer the Gateway City a multi-stage, multi-act, multi-millions-of-dollars musical experience similar to what Chicago has every August.

So let's think about what Lollapalooza 2014 may be like, eh? Yesterday evening, Chicago Tribune music critic Greg Kot leaked the acts his "industry sources" have confirmed to be Lollapalooza's headliners:

Lollapalooza itself isn't scheduled to formally announce performers until next week, so Kot's assertion that this year's headliners will include Eminem, Skrillex, Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon remains unofficial. Kot's list is worth considering, though, because he's been right a couple of times before. (Compare those reports with the actual lineups.)

When it comes to the artists themselves, Eminem headlined Lolla in 2011 and received a bunch of excellent reviews. It's certainly not unheard of for entertainers to do the festival multiple times, and the rapper will be heading north in August anyway for a date in Canada.

As we reported last week, Skrillex will visit St. Louis on June 17, which isn't anywhere near Lollapalooza's dates of August 1 through 3. However, Skrillex's tour concludes July 30 in Maine, and he'd be just a flight away from celebrating the end in Chicago's Grant Park.

The Arctic Monkeys appears to be a Lollapalooza favorite, performing at the main festival in 2009 and 2011 and also at Chile's and Brazil's Lolla events in 2012. The band, which visited St. Louis in February, will be overseas in July but heads to Canada for a performance on August 1. Again, the land of Dudley Do-Right isn't all that far from northern Illinois.

As for Kings of Leon...well, honestly, we don't care much about Kings of Leon. But for the record, the band concludes a tour in Belgium on July 6. We sort of hope birds poop on them.

Regardless of our fine detective work on the tour dates for our potential headliners, the big question is: Do we care?

Continue for reactions to the leaked headliners.
