Tonight’s the night to hoist one last drink to fabled barkeep Mark Pollman, who passed away in March from prostate cancer.
From 1970 to 2006 Pollman drew a loyal following at the corner of Clayton Avenue and Skinker Boulevards, tending bar ten years at the Cheshire Lodge and returning in 1980 to work twenty-one more years at the adjoining Fox & Hounds Tavern. Pollman was as well known for his encyclopedic knowledge of spirits as he was for his sharp tongue and (at times) gruff demeanor.
Tonight’s belated wake/memorial will be held from 6 p.m. to midnight at Pollman’s favorite restaurant LoRusso’s Cucina at 3121 Watson Road.
The event is free and open to the public and will include music from another Fox & Hounds legend, organist Bill Benson. An auction of Pollman’s favorite memorabilia will benefit some of his dearest charities, including the Kansas City Doberman Rescue.
