Wednesday, March 11: Morning's Newz

Today all the juicy news comes from the East Side.

In a story buried deep in this morning's Post-Dispatch, courts reporter Robert Patrick tells an amusing tale about two Illinois strip clubs arguing over trade secrets.

Yesterday the Penthouse Club in Sauget sued a former employee, Michael McLean, on charges that he recruited Penthouse dancers and customers to his new place of employment, Hollywood Showclub in Washington Park. The Penthouse Club fired McClean last month after he allegedly punched a customer despite the club's "no punching policy."

In my favorite East Side haunt, Alton, the news is measurably more pitiful. A struggling Alton funeral director has been charged with robbing a bank in Indiana. Also in Alton yesterday  a man was accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend with a baseball bat and a woman was charged with killing her stepson by slamming the toddler's head against a door frame.

And speaking of bashed brains (and tasteless transitions!), legislators in Jefferson City are considering a bill that would allow Missouri motorcyclists to ride without helmets. This is extremely important for motorcycle devotees, who argue (quite convincingly) that they look much, much cooler without headwear.
