is coming to St. Louis this Thursday. CloudCamp is a conference that's structured in a similar way to a BarCamp
except that it's all about cloud computing. Cloud computing is basically running applications and using other IT resources over the Internet (the "cloud") rather than on your desktop or even on a local server.
Apparently there have been dozens of these CloudCamps all over the world, but this is the first one in St. Louis -- even though one of the founders, Sam Charington
marketing director for Appistry
, is a local guy. He recently wrote on his blog
I suppose I've always felt a bit guilty that we hadn't done one here in St. Louis yet, given all the work I've done with CloudCamp the organization and helping to put on CloudCamps in other folks' cities. I've kind of considered it one of those "cobbler's children" kinds of situations, i.e. they go barefooted.
So it's about time STL got some CloudCamp love, considering the number of local companies who provide these kinds of services it is kind of amazing that there hasn't been a conference like this here yet. Besides Charington's company, there's Savvis
and Oasis Digital
Here are the details for the event from the event site:
CloudCamp is an unconference where early adopters of Cloud Computing technologies exchange ideas. With the rapid change occurring in the industry, we need a place we can meet to share our experiences, challenges and solutions. At CloudCamp, you are encouraged you to share your thoughts in several open discussions, as we strive for the advancement of Cloud Computing. End users, IT professionals and vendors are all encouraged to participate
