called the Columbia, Illinois, police.
The 32-year-old Coleman, an evangelical Christian and bodyguard for a televangelist
, said he was at the gym for a pre-dawn workout and was concerned that his wife Sheri
and their two young boys, Garett and Gavin
, weren't answering the home phone.
Police arrived at Coleman's house at 6:52 a.m. on May 5, 2009, to find Sheri and the boys strangled to death and graffiti spray-painted on the walls
of the home. Later police would discover that Coleman kept a mistress in Florida
, and told the woman he would soon be leaving his wife to marry her.
Authorities would also discover that the email threats that Coleman said he had received from a mad-man bent on killing him and his family originated from Coleman's personal laptop computer
Coleman has maintained his innocence. A trial is scheduled for later this year in Monroe County. Last month a judge agreed to bring in jurors from outside the St. Louis region
on the belief that local residents may have already formed an opinion about Coleman.
