Earlier today we mentioned that six beaches in Missouri state parks will be closed this week due to dangerously high levels of E. coli bacteria.

But those six beaches are just a fraction of the state swimming holes found to contain unsafe levels of the fecal bacteria. In 2008 alone, the state found 52 creeks, rivers and streams in Missouri with levels of E. coli surpassing safety levels.

You can view a list of those waterways at our sister paper, the Kansas City Pitch. For more on Missouri's battles with E. coli, check out this week's RFT feature story, Deep Doo Doo.
