Missouri's top transportation official Kevin Keith says his agency won't approve any more red-light cameras until further study.

Keith, the interim director of the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) tells the Post-Dispatch this morning that many municipalities seem to be using the cameras as a "moneymaking, revenue-generating activity" as opposed to a device solely to increase public safety.

"I can't say everyone is doing it," Keith tells the daily. "We have enough indication that there are (communities) doing that. It gives us pause."

MoDOT's policy shift won't impact cameras already in operation along state-maintained roadways, but could halt new cameras from showing up along those streets.
