The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office today charged Tyrone C. Benedict of Maryland Heights with first-degree murder and arson in the death yesterday of Mark Woods.

Police and fire officials arrived to Woods' burning home yesterday around 6 a.m. to discover him already dead inside his Mehlville residence. The 40-year-old Woods had limited mobility due to a physical impairment and lived at the home at 140 Kinswood Lane alone.

Benedict, 38, of the 2800 block of McKelvey in Maryland Heights, was employed as Woods' caregiver. He reportedly stabbed Woods prior to setting the house on fire, according to court documents.

Benedict is being held without bond.
