Here's your weekly St. Louis bestseller list for the week ending April 17, as compiled by the St. Louis Independent Booksellers Alliance and based on sales at Left Bank Books, Main Street Books, Pudd'nhead Books, Subterranean Books, Sue's News and The Book House.

The author of this week's No. 1 St. Louis bestseller is an actual St. Louisan: Eric Greitens, a 1992 graduate of Parkway North, a former Rhodes Scholar and Navy SEAL, founder of the Mission Continues, a nonprofit to help wounded and disabled veterans get re-accustomed to life back in the U.S., and, incidentally, the subject of a 2008 Riverfront Times profile. In The Heart and the Fist, Greitens tells stories of his experiences in Bosnia, Rwanda, Iraq and Afghanistan, among other places, and tries to come to terms with balancing his roles as a soldier and humanitarian.

New to the adult list are Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin, both recently translated to the screen (movie and HBO, respectively); The Wilder Life, Wendy McClure's celebration of all things Laura Ingalls, and A Tour Guide to Missouri's Civil War: Friend and Foe Alike by Gregory Wolk, because the Civil War started 150 years ago this month.

Over on the children's/YA list, The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens, the first volume in what is expected to be the latest blockbuster kids' fantasy epic, made its debut at No. 1.
