Dazzle Me Twice is a new high-end consignment shop in the Central West End that aims at helping you look marvelous for less.
Marty London opened the store late last month as a way to take advantage of the ongoing recession.
"It's interesting. It kind of runs the gamut, but I think that in this
economy there are an awful lot of people that want to look at
consignment. Especially, when you have beautiful things like I do," she says.
Dazzle Me Twice operates out of a home on McPherson Avenue that London tried in vain to sell before coming up with the idea to convert into a boutique. Not only does London benefit from having the shop, but so, too, do local charities that consign some of the clothes for sale at Dazzle Me Twice.
Walk-in customers can also put clothes up for consignment at the store, with London and the seller splitting the profits from any sale.
But beware: London doesn't take just any old rags. She has a discerning eye and accepts only items that are clean, hung, and from top-notch designers.
The price range of the clothing solely depend on the rarity of the item, with London offering customers a chance to bypass expensive boutiques such as Sax or Neiman's.
"If somebody has worn something like a St. John's evening gown and they've only worn it once, why would you pay full price for it when you can get it for a third or a fourth of the original price? Sometimes, I think for the customers it is just the thrill of the hunt," says London.
Fashion has always been London's first love and by owning a shop such as Dazzle Me Twice, she is able to incorporate it into her life. Customers have requested the addition of a men's section, but London has yet to pull that trigger.
Dazzle Me Twice (4632 McPherson Avenue, St. Louis; 314-367-0857)
is open Friday nights from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
