Former P-D Editor Arnie Robbins Lands New Gig

It's been about five weeks since Arnie Robbins announced he was stepping down from his job as editor of the Post-Dispatch. Yesterday afternoon, the American Society of News Editors (which goes by the unfortunate acronym ASNE) announced that Robbins would be taking over as its executive director.

Conveniently (for Robbins anyway), ASNE will be moving its headquarters from Washington, DC, to Columbia, where it will be establishing a partnership with the Mizzou school of journalism.

Isn't it nice when things work out?

ASNE is a nonprofit organization which, in the words of its website, "promotes fair, principled journalism, defends and protects First Amendment rights, and fights for freedom of information and open government." Membership is open to anyone in the journalism field -- be it producers of journalism or teachers of journalism -- who have subordinates to kick around.

Robbins begins his new job July 9. His predecessor, Richard Karpel, left to become president and CEO of the Yoga Alliance. You may make of that what you wish.
