. According to the probable cause statement
, Esters' girlfriend told police that he made plans with his cousin, Jonathan Perkins, to commit a robbery in the Central West End on Saturday. Perkins then drove the pair to the scene of the eventual crime.
Perkins allegedly told investigators that Esters saw Boken talking on her cell phone, and decided that she would be his victim. Perkins dropped Esters off and parked within sight of Boken, who was in her own car.
Esters then attempted to rob Boken, who resisted, and Esters allegedly shot Boken twice, killing her. Esters then ran back to the car, and told Perkins that he had shot her, according to the probable cause statement.
A witness to the murder saw Esters running from the scene. That witness later positively identified Esters.
Esters has been charged with first degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of first degreet attempted robbery. Perkins has been charged with second degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of second degree robbery.
