If you can't get a woman's phone number, might as well just try and take her whole phone!
That seems to be thinking of 22-year-old Ronald Burns who, according to police documents, entered a St. Louis store on Tuesday and tried to get a woman's number. When she declined, he left the store.
But a short while later, as she was exiting, he drove up to her and began to bother her again -- this time pointing a gun in her face, police say.
A probable cause statement against Burns from the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office says that when Burns drove up to her, he "demanded her belongings" outside of the store on the 5000 block of Virginia Avenue.
At this point, the woman, identified only as K.R. in the report, handed over her cell phone.
It seems that he then drove off and the woman was not physically harmed. After an investigation, police were able to track down Burns who the victim identified as the man who robbed her (and had earlier asked for her number).
Plus, he had her phone on him, police say.Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce tweeted that Burns was out on bond at the time of the incident:
While out on bond, Ronald Burns robbed a woman at gunpoint after she refused to give him her phone numberbit.ly/16zNR7o— Jennifer M. Joyce (@JenniferJoyceCA) April 4, 2013
Court records show that he was out on bond for stealing a credit card and in 2010 had faced charges of distributing a controlled substance near a school.
This week, he was charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.
Here's the incident summary from the charges followed by the full probable cause statement.
Defendant [Burns] approached K.R. in a store and asked for her phone number. K.R. would not provide her number. Defendant left the store. As K.R. was walking from the store, Defendant drove up, pointed a gun at her and demanded her belongings. K.R. handed over her cell phone. Further investigation led to Defendant as a suspect. K.R. identified Defendant as the person who robbed her. Defendant was found in possession of K.R.'s cell phone.
