Need another reason to be scared of meeting strangers online? Daily RFT has got you covered!

This cautionary tale -- unlike the recent Craigslist robberies in St. Louis -- is a story of online romance gone wrong. St. Louis County Police say that a 24-year-old woman told them she met a man on the Internet recently and that on March 30, she picked him up from a Berkeley apartment complex to "spend the night with her."

When she woke up in the early hours of the morning, an official report says, "She noticed that [the suspect] was not in bed with her."

And her car was gone.

Yikes.

The theft, reported by Florissant Patch this week, resulted in felony charges of stealing a motor vehicle against Paul Myles, a 27-year-old Berkeley resident.

A county police spokesman tells us they don't have many details to offer, including how the two met online -- whether it was through a dating website or something else. He does say that when the woman filed the initial report of theft she only identified him as Paul, but then later found him on Facebook and gave cops a lot more detail...including his last name.

The woman told police that the two of them had "only gotten together a couple of times" and that he has never driven her vehicle, a 2006 silver Chrysler Pacifica, before.

She told police, a report says, that they had fallen asleep around 2 a.m. and that it wasn't until four hours later that she realized her car keys -- and her car -- were missing.

We've reached out to Myles' public defender and will update if we hear back.
