Maybe he was casing the joint. Maybe he forgot his resume. Either way, police are on the lookout for the man who tried to rob Hands On Detailing car wash last weekend by asking for a job first.
Just after 5 p.m. Friday, an unidentified man in a white hooded jacket, light-colored jeans and a red baseball cap walked into the car wash behind south city staple the Rendezvous Room at 521 S. Vandeventer, asked for a job and left, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
Five minutes later, according to the security camera footage, the man walked back into the store with a gun and announced that he was holding the place up. A 60-year-old male employee tried to disarm the gunman, so he shot the employee in the stomach, police said.
Here's the security footage. Watch how he hobbles out of the shop after the shooting:
The suspect -- who is actively wanted by police for robbery and assault charges -- fled through an alley and jumped into a white four-door Chevy Impala occupied by three other men, which headed south on Vandeventer. Police describe the suspect as about 30-years-old, between 5'8" and 5'10" and about 200 pounds.
The car wash employee was listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
Police said it's not yet clear if the robber took anything from the business.
