Farmers, with their up-at-dawn, sweat-until-sundown work ethic, are a difficult group to get to know. They have all that fun machinery (like combines!), but only one person can ride on those rigs at a time -- no fair! Well, farmers are going to start sharing some of the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor beginning this Thursday, April 8, at the opening of the 28th season of the Kirkwood Farmers' Market (on East Argonne Drive at Taylor Avenue). Pick up some seasonings at Soulard Spice Shop's satellite location, a homemade pie from the Ladybug Pies stand, and locally grown produce at CJ's Produce and Plants (just to name a few vendors) every Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Unfortunately, shoppers will have to wait until May for Farrar Out Farms' free-range eggs and heirloom tomatoes and Tropical Moose Shaved Ice.
