American songwriter Woody Guthrie had a way with pithy slogans, from the rousing “This Land Is Your Land” to the militant message scrawled on his guitar: "this machine kills fascists.” But his way with words wasn’t limited to songs and political catch phrases; in 1942 he crafted his “New Years Rulin’s," an aspirational list of resolutions as charming as it is inspiring, from “wash teeth if any” to “dream good” to “wake up and fight.” Local photographer and musician Corey Woodruff illustrated this list in honor of Woody’s would-be 100th birthday, photographing local artists, farmers, musicians and the like with their interpretations of these rulin’s.
